GoPro cameras with GPS record the track inside the video file. How do I make a GoPro overlay with GPS data?
Upload the clip and press "Use GPS from this video". TrainCraft reads the GPS track the camera stored in the video file, in your browser, and builds the overlay from it: speed, route, distance and altitude, aligned to the footage. No account is needed for this step.
Can I show speed on a GoPro video overlay?
Yes. With camera GPS the speed comes from the ground speed the camera recorded. With a FIT, GPX or TCX file or a synced ride, it comes from that ride instead.
Does this work for GoPro 12 and GoPro 13 telemetry?
HERO12 has no built-in GPS, so its clips contain no GPS track to read: use a synced ride or a FIT, GPX or TCX file. HERO13 and other models that record GPS work when GPS was switched on before recording; HERO11 and later write the GPS9 stream, HERO5 to HERO10 write GPS5, and TrainCraft reads both.
Is this a GoPro Quik telemetry overlay alternative?
It covers the same need, speed and route on your GoPro video, in a browser editor that reads the GPS track from the original file and also accepts ride files with power, heart rate and cadence. TrainCraft is independent and not affiliated with GoPro; GoPro and Quik are trademarks of their owners.
The editor says my video has no GPS track. What now?
A camera records a GPS track only when it has built-in GPS and it was switched on. A copy that was edited or re-encoded can also lose the track, so try the original file from the camera. If there is still none, or the camera never got a satellite fix, upload a FIT, GPX or TCX file or pick a synced ride.
Is the whole video read to get the GPS data?
No. TrainCraft reads only the file index and the telemetry data in your browser, so a large clip is not loaded whole just to extract the GPS.
What is free and what is paid?
Reading camera GPS needs no account. Free exports are SD (480p) with a TrainCraft watermark, up to 1 GB per video. Paid plans export in HD up to 4K without the watermark and with larger limits.
