Alpe d'Huez and the Tour
Alpe d'Huez hosted the Tour's first-ever summit finish in 1952, won by Fausto Coppi, and has been the race's amphitheatre ever since. Each of the 21 hairpins carries the name of a stage winner, and Dutch Corner (bend 7) turns orange with fans whenever the Tour visits.
Tadej Pogačar set the fastest recorded Tour ascent on stage 19 in 2026, climbing the classic 13.8 km timing in an estimated 35:26 and breaking Marco Pantani's long-standing benchmark by more than a minute. Richard Carapaz won the following day after arriving via the Col de Sarenne, completing the first back-to-back Alpe d'Huez finishes in Tour history.
Tadej Pogačar won on the classic 21 hairpins and set a new Alpe d’Huez ascent record of approximately 35:26.
Richard Carapaz won the queen stage over the Croix de Fer, Télégraphe, Galibier and Col de Sarenne, sealing the mountains classification.
